Exile/The Distant West
28 October 2008 - 30 November 2008Exile/The Distant West
Bruno Boudjelal and Malik Nejmi take us down a road where history and memory meet in images that express loneliness, the wrench of uprooting and the yearning and fear of going back; but they also evoke the possible rebuilding of the Self. Fro Bruno Boudjelal, who is Franco-Algerian and member of the VU agency, photography is primarily bound up with the tradition of reportage. He travelled all over the country photographing the Turkish community in all its geographic and professional diversity, building up the first ever record of Turkish immigration in France.
Franco-Moroccan photographer Malik Nejmi explores family history against the backdrop of collective history.
