Objectivités, la photographie à Düsseldorf
Objectivities: Photography in Dusseldorf
4 October 2008 - 4 January 2009Objectivities: Photography in Dusseldorf
For the first time in France, this exhibition brings together work by teachers and students from the famous Düsseldorf Art Academy: Bernd and Hilla Becher, Hans-Peter Feldmann, Gerhard Richter, Sigmar Polke and Lothar Baumgarten, as well as artists who live in Düsseldorf such as Beat Streuli. The city appears as a free-spirited and established centre for artistic creation where personalities with different sensitivities and asesthetic points of view can flourish. Objectivities reflects often neglected aspects of early photographic work which are nonetheless essential to an understanding of more recent material. The exhibition includes both major series and photographs that have rarely or never been displayed in France that contribute significantly to the conceptual and formal diversity of the famous "Dusseldorf School".
Photographs by: Lothar Baumgarten, Bernd and Hilla Becher, Laurenz Berges, Elger Esser, Hans-Peter Feldmann, Andreas Gursky, Candida Höfer, Axel Hütte, Klaus Mettig, Simone Nieweg, Sigmar Polke, Gerhard Richter, Thomas Ruff, Jörg Sasse, Katharina Sieverding, Beat Streuli, Thomas Struth, Ursula Schulz-Dornburg and Petra Wunderlich.
