Collectif Signatures, Europe échelle 27
5 - 29 November 2008This exhibition presents the work of ten photographers from the French collective Signatures who each spent several weeks travelling around Europe taking photographs with no particular guidelines. Perhaps they had in mind the principle that guaranteed the artistic freedom of Henri Cartier-Bresson: "When I travel, I look at what I'm shown and I photograph something nearby." The photographers travelled far and wide, by day and by night, exploring land, sea and cities. Why "27"? Because they visited the 27 European member States, in order to present a pictorial inventory of unique places where traces of Europe's long history can be found. They looked for what is unique in the European experience while recording the banality of everyday life, exercising a right of passage and now sharing the resulting images.
