Change is part of evolution, and constitutes one of the stages of creation in all art, photography included. Arnaud Baumann has photographed the same friends and relations several years apart. This confrontation of images from two eras reveals its own changes: the child has become an adult, the adult has aged, but it also produces a temporal compression: the years that have passed between two oportraits seem to have been erased… Even if everything has changed, history seems to want us to regress, and that includes the way we look at freedom. We really are, as the French expression goes, entre deux eaux: 'between two waters': neither here nor there.
