25 October 2008 - 11 November 2008

Launched in 2006, Fotografia Europea is an event that takes place in Reggio Emilia, a town where contemporary photography continues to flourish. A prominent example is Luigi Ghirri, a key figure not only because he has provided the impulse for the rebirth of Italian photography over the last few decades, but also because he engages in a lively dialogue between photography and art, architecture, literature and music. Fotografia Europea builds on this foundation and maintains this ambition by exploring new avenues in photography on a European scale. Each edition has a unifying theme that links it with other artforms and disciplines: the themes of the three editions have been the environment, the city and the body. The present selections aims to reconstruct certain stages in the process, offering a meaningful dialectic between continuity and interruption, history and change.

Photographs by Antoine d'Agata, Bruno Cattani, Marina Ballo-Charmet, Giorgio Barrera, Gabriele Basilico, Fabrizio Cicconi, Patrizio Esposito, Vittore Fossati, Jean-Louis Garnell, Luigi Ghirri, Paolo Gioli, Marcello Grassi, Jitka Hanzlovà, Aino Kannisto, Walter Niedermayr, Erwin Olaf, Fabrizio Orsi, Martin Parr, Bernard Plossu, Pentti Sammallahti, Kai-Uwe Schulte-Bernert, Ferdinando Scianna, Klavdij Sluban.
