Hervé Dez, Transition amère
Bitter Transition
7 November - 6 December 2008Bitter Transition
The Yugoslavs that Hervé Dez photographed from 1996 to 2007 are no longer those who determined the destiny of this old European territory by creating a new country with new social rules. Dez has based his project on the effects of transition. His pictures bear witness to a never-ending aftermath. They primarily reflect a sense, in that place, of the viscosity and duality of time, and of its bitter taste. For real people as for the characters in Ivo Andric's novels, our destiny escapes us, leaving us neither here nor there.
