Gens de terre, la nouvelle Europe
People of the Land: The New Europe
3 - 28 November 2008People of the Land: The New Europe
Five photographers from the association "les Yeux de la Terre" have focused on farming in central and eastern Europe, revisiting traditional images of agriculture and looking at the place rural populations have in the world economy. Their photographs are presented in counterpoint to those made by Antanas Sutkus between 1970 and 1980. As we look at these photos from two eras side by side, beyond their apparent similarities, a fracture appears: though hope can be seen in these faces today, they also express fear of the changes taking place in the modern world. Photographs by: Rémy Artiges, Christian Bellavia, Alain Keler, Didier Lefèvre, Antanas Sutkus, Alain Tendero.
Designed and directed by Catherine Baduel, director of the association Les yeux de la terre.
