Reiner Riedler, Fake Holidays

30 October - 29 November 2008

Reiner Riedler belongs to the new generation of European photographers whose socio-documentary approach draws on many different influences. His way of looking at the world and his contemporaries is honed by a sensitivity to the absurd aspects of the society of leisure, where globalization and standardization go hand in hand. Fake Holidays takes us into a world built on artifice. Dining at the Kremlin in Turkey, relaxing on a tropical beach in the centre of Berlin or going for a gondola ride along a reconstructed Canaletto in a Florida theme park: these are just some of the experiences offered to tourists and city-dwellers in Europe and elsewhere, in search of something different and unconcerned by authenticity.
