In the same town, the same location, men and women live side by side without meeting each other; whole worlds cohabit without seeing one another. Denis Bourges sets out to record this mysterious duality in Mont-Saint-Michel, a town where two parallel worlds coexist, one of them modern (the world of tourists), the other traditional (that of the monks). This series of pictures depicts moments that are disjointed although they coincide: they show crowded streets and monastery doors, the babble of foreign languages and monastic silence.
The surprising paradox of these two superimposed worlds reveals with great intensity the foibles of our society, its ills and its aspirations.
