Miguel Rio Branco, Photos Volées
Stolen Photos
20 November - 20 December 2008Stolen Photos
In the mid sixties Rio Branco exhibited his paintings and studied photography, and in 1978 he joined Magnum. After his archives of mainly black and white photos were destroyed in a fire he began to work as he still does today, at the frontier between different fields, drawing alternately from images, spoken words, music, meaning, silence and colour.
A photograph by Rio Branco is a concentration of light, suffering and desire. For this exhibition, he has chosen a selection of photos he took during a trip to Paris between 1982 and 1983. These images are presented alongside vintage gelatin silver prints from the 1970s.
