Thierry Cohen, Binary Kids
7 - 29 November 2008In the 1980s Thierry Cohen was one of the first artists in France to use digital technology in his work. Here his highly personal technique brings a new dimension to a subject rooted in traditional photography, namely children's portraits. Circuitboards and their constituent electronic components are superimposed on pure children's faces photographed frontally. The photographer processes these superimpositions to obtain effects of transparency involving the abstract reality of numbers embodied in representations where the sense of individual presence is relatively diminished.
