4 Europeans, 4 "Stories"

4 - 29 November 2008

The gallery presents a programme focusing on the work of four artists: Marina Abramovic, Knut Åsdam, Mark Lewis and Valérie Mréjen. These artists are all engaged in special ways of seeing the world, expressed through 'stories' or staged situations.

Knut Åsdam is interested in the way each individual lives in the city today, haunted by his or her inner thoughts, references, desires and conflicts. The two films Pissing and Blissed address notions of otherness, exchange and loss of control.

Addressing the place of the individual in social, cultural and political space, Dieu by Valérie Mréjen explores notions of rootedness and transmission.

Also concerned with cultural roots, Roundabout by Mark Lewis shows the slow, methodical destruction of a large concrete building in the London suburbs.

Marina Abramovic explores the limits of her body and emphasizes that the only thing that matters is our own experience, which can bring about deep personal changes. Her films Mambo and Insomnia show the importance of temporality, memory and physical energy freed by dance and self-abandonment.
