Arnaud Claass
"Photographies : 1968-1995"
Arnaud Claass has developed over
more than 25 years works that appear, in the
uniqueness of his photographic experience, as a point
of reference of French creation.
Through different articulated
series, this work reveals a complex relation,
intertwined to the time of photographic vision and to
the intimacy of the environment which he chooses to
portray.
From "Contretemps" to the series entitled
"Précaire", Arnaud Claass has ceaselessly
enriched the accomplishment of a project in which the
photographic image finds its meaning not through the
object it shows, but based on the object which serves
as its constituting element. Inversion of a process,
photography for Arnaud Claass is no longer the
extension of sight, nor is it a means of translation
of a personal mythology, it becomes this mental
thing, this tool for meditation of time and of the
world, which reveals the constant move of the artist
and his capacity for action in the space of
appearance.
This exhibit was presented by the Rencontres
Internationales de la Photographie, Arles, April -
June 1996.
