A book to be filled in is given to each child, so that they can participate, get a feel for the works on show, and take home a record of their visit.

Discovery visits Nursery and elementary schools
The cultural and educational service invites young schoolchildren on a voyage of discovery relating to the work of a photographer, specially designed for nursery schools (children 4-6 years old) and elementary schools (7-11 years).
These visits take place outside public opening times, which means children can discover the exhibition spaces in ideal conditions. They take part in a unique experience that encourages concentration and helps them feel at home in the museum.
When the class arrives, two group leaders welcome the children, introduce the museum and explain how the visit will proceed.
The class is then divided into two groups to encourage children to talk and share their impressions of the works on show.
A book is given to each child. It contains various games that approach key principles of photography: framing, composition, black and white, instantaneity, the photographer’s point of view, etc.
It enables each child to participate, to interact with the work, to keep a record of the visit, and to share the experience afterwards.
Having discovered some important photographic techniques via the work of an artist, the child will have the keys to understanding, analysing, and decoding an image.?But the main aim is to hone children’s curiosity and foster their eagerness to look at the world around them.
The teacher has the opportunity to visit the exhibition in advance and be informed about the structure and aims of the ‘Discovery Visit’. This initial contact is an essential preparatory stage and makes it possible for teachers to optimise the visit.

About the MEP

Behind the scenes at the MEP
The cultural and educational service offers a special visit behind the scenes on three Wednesdays a month, providing the opportunity to discover the "Maison" in three stages:
- History of the building. The Hôtel Hénault de Cantobre was built in 1706 and bears the name of its first owner, the tax collector René Jean Rémy Hénault de Cantobre. The façades overlooking the street, the ironwork and the central staircase are listed features representative of neo-classical architecture. The building has belonged to the City of Paris since 1914. For the MEP project, the conversion and extension of the building were entrusted to the Yves Lion architecture firm.
- The media library collection. The Roméo Martinez library and video library is a consultation facility focusing on photography as a form of artistic expression. Its specialization and the number of documents available (24,000 books, 1,400 periodicals, 800 films) make it the only one of its kind in the world. It offers researchers and lovers of photography a repository of international audiovisual publishing devoted to photographers.
- The Restoration and Conservation Workshops (ARCP). Situated in the same building as the MEP, this is the first public service specializing in the conservation of photographic materials. Its main purpose is to deploy a implement a preservation policy for the municipal photographic heritage by carrying out expert evaluations leading to conservation and restoration work.

Partnerships with schools/classes

Practical art workshops
These form part of a school’s syllabus and represent an educational initiative drawn up jointly by a teacher, a photographer and the MEP cultural and educational service. They provide an opportunity for the world of education and the world of art to meet, and offer students regular activities focusing on artistic themes.
The cultural and educational service helps put together these workshops by bringing in a participating photographer and providing all the relevant educational support.
