Nina Levinthal "Pick yourself-up", 1996-1997
Installation with photography and vidéo
Between euphorie, patience and abyss, where is equilibrium found? The myth of Achilles is, for me, the evocation of a vacillation between force and weakness, of the ambiguity between vulnerability and the desire of invulnerability. The declension of an existence, its presence in the world, is in itself the implication of this game.
"A strong person can enjoy everything in life, and whatever obstacles arise only make that person even stronger". (Daisaku Ikeda, Joy of Living, Tokyo, The Young Women's Division, 1994)
A video installation where elements answer each other: a fixed image evoking the myth, and three videos declining different names of establishing a relation of equilibrium which permit the transformation of our dreams into reality.
"Ma mère", a video made in 1994 is a testimony of heredity.
