Vintage photographs by the
American photographer Paul Strand are unveiled in the
exhibition Paul Strand: The World on My Doorstep, 1950 -
1976. Curated by Anthony Montoya, director of the Paul
Strand Archive of the Aperture Foundation, and funded by
a generous grant from American Express Company, the
exhibition is touring Europe.
The exhibition comprises over 150 photographs, many of
which are vintage prints discovered amongst the
photographer's personal effects several years ago and
have never been seen by the public. These prints focus on
a dynamic period in Strand's career with images made by
the photographer on his journeys throughout Europe and
North Africa in the last 25 years of his life.
Through Strand's images of the people, architecture,
landscapes and everyday objects, he sought to illustrate
the aspects of existence experienced by all people and
thus to create a "bridge toward a deeper
understanding between countries".
