Saito – Kando

Harumichi Saito, winner of the New Cosmos of Photography Award, is one of the most remarkable young photographers in Japan. Many of his portraits are of disabled people or minorities within Japanese society. His images are filled with light and clarity, through which he draws a dignity and radiance out of his subjects. In addition to people, he also turns to animals and landscapes for his subjects. Regardless, Saito’s distinguishing feature in his practice is the way he faces his subject directly, allowing the viewer to experience the pure beauty of his vision. The works express a living, breathing world beyond all classifications or boundaries.
