The story between Bob Marley and Dennis Morris began in the 1970s when Dennis Morris skipped school to offer to photograph the singer during his “Catch a Fire” tour in London. The two men formed a friendship, giving Morris unparalleled access to his idol. He captured behind-the-scenes images, revealing Marley beyond his “star” persona. Their bond lasted until Marley’s death in 1981, leaving a legacy of both iconic and deeply personal images, many of which can be discovered in the Music + Life exhibition.

Bob Marley would have turned 80 this year, and to mark the occasion, the MEP is paying tribute to him with an exceptional evening. Discover the program below!

To celebrate Bob Marley’s 80th birthday, Nova honors the reggae legend with a DJ set by Kristiz, a radio programmer, at the MEP. As part of the exhibition dedicated to Dennis Morris, the iconic photographer of the reggae movement and artistic companion of Bob Marley, this set will pay tribute to a mythical figure and a universal music. An evening marked by groove, freedom, and cultural heritage.

Dennis Morris — Music + Life

Throughout the evening, explore the exhibition Dennis Morris — Music + Life in the galleries of the MEP.

This is the first retrospective in France dedicated to British artist Dennis Morris. The exhibition brings together, for the first time, an extensive selection of his photographs capturing his youth in London, along with iconic portraits of Bob Marley and the Sex Pistols—images that have become emblematic of pop culture.

It also highlights Morris’s close relationships with legends like Bob Marley, the Sex Pistols, Marianne Faithfull, and Lee “Scratch” Perry. More than a photographer, Morris captures a shared trust and intensity, revealing lesser-known facets of his subjects.

As an art director, he shaped the visual identities of these artists, elevating them to iconic status and redefining music marketing. His authentic shots bear witness to the intersection of reggae and punk, embodying a rebellious youth in a multicultural England shaped by immigration. Each portrait becomes a visual manifesto of authenticity and connection.
