Iris Millot — The sun comes out at the fork in the road

The MEP Studio presents The sun comes out at the fork in the road, the exhibition by artist Iris Millot, winner of the Dior Photography and Visual Arts Award for Young Talents in 2023.

The exhibition

The exhibition features her series “Le soleil passe à l’embranchement” (The Sun comes out at the fork in the road), in which the artist delves into the story of her great-aunt Hélène, a former activist in the MLF, the women’s liberation movement in France. Hélène has lived on her ancestral farm for 40 years, cultivating the land and maintaining the surrounding forest. At the age of 77, she still cuts down the trees herself when they die. The water resources are drying up and she will probably be the last person to work the land. Between documentary and fiction, Iris Millot tells the story of Hélène’s life, combining photographs, recordings, fragments of text from Hélène’s diaries, and archives found in her attic.
