Dennis Morris is one of the most influential photographers of his generation, having captured iconic moments in music history, from the punk scene to the legend of reggae. His photographs of Bob Marley, the Sex Pistols, and major figures in rock and underground culture have left a lasting impact and become essential visual references.

Philippe Manœuvre, a passionate rock journalist and editor-in-chief of Rock & Folk magazine for over 20 years, is a leading figure in the French music scene. As a host, author, and renowned specialist, he has met and interviewed some of the biggest stars in music.

This event is a unique opportunity to dive into the world of Dennis Morris’s work, guided by the expertise and passion of Philippe Manœuvre. A must-attend moment for music, photography, and culture enthusiasts.

Dennis Morris

Dennis Morris is a British artist who has used his camera to build a profound body of work centered on extraordinary individuals.

Closely connected to the world of music, Morris has created some of the most iconic and memorable images of Bob Marley and the Sex Pistols, as well as the album cover for Broken English by Marianne Faithfull. He also designed the emblematic logo for Public Image Limited and the band’s first two album covers, including the legendary Metal Box. His documentary work includes a series capturing the essence of Southall’s Sikh community, later acquired by English Heritage.

Several books have been published on his work, including Bob Marley: A Rebel Life and Portraits of the King; The Bollocks, on the Sex Pistols; Growing Up Black; and Colored Black, chronicles of the Black British community in the 1960s and 1970s.

His work is widely recognized and has been exhibited internationally at the Today Art Museum in Beijing, the Laforet Museum in Tokyo, the Rencontres de la Photographie in Arles, the Kyotographie International Photography Festival in Kyoto, The Photographers’ Gallery in London, the Institute of Contemporary Arts in London, Tate Britain, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland.

His photographs are part of prestigious public and private collections, including those of Tate, the National Portrait Gallery, and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. His work has also been featured in numerous publications such as Rolling Stone, Time, GQ, Vogue, W, and Frieze. Additionally, his photography appears in books such as Lipstick Traces: A Secret History of the Twentieth Century by Greil Marcus, Century by Bruce Bernard, and 100 Days of Active Resistance by Vivienne Westwood.

Philippe Manœuvre

Born in 1954, the year Elvis released his first 45 rpm record, Philippe Manœuvre has dedicated his entire journalism career to his passion for rock music.

A rock critic and former editor-in-chief of Rock & Folk and Métal Hurlant, he has also brought rock to the airwaves on radio stations such as France Inter, La Voix du Lézard, Oui FM, Europe 1, RTL, and RFM. His commitment to rock has led him to collaborate with various publications, including Libération, Paris Match, and Playboy France, and to spread the gospel of rock on television (Les Enfants du Rock, Canal Jimmy, Arte Summer Tour, etc.).

Every Thursday at 10 PM, he hosts Radio Manœuvre on RFM. He has helped Joeystarr and Michel Polnareff publish their memoirs and has authored numerous solo works, including Rock’n’Roll: La Discothèque idéale (Albin Michel, 2005), 202 Vinyles Cultes (Hugo Desinge, 2020), Rock (HarperCollins France, 2018), Flashback Acide (Robert Laffont, 2021), and La Discothèque Ultime (Hugo Desinge, 2024).
