Gibson – L’Histoire De France

L’Histoire de France is Ralph Gibson’s first collection of color work. Gibson has been fascinated by the cultural traditions and people of France since his first visit to Paris in 1971. “To me,” he writes, “France is an emotional metaphor, a feeling you get nowhere else.” This is his loving tribute to the French and their culture: architectural details, graceful figure studies, and sensual still lifes all contribute to the ambience Gibson projects as distinctly French.
