Gotby – Brand

When a building suddenly burned down on her yard, Catharina Gotby began to photograph in shock, as documentation for a police investigation and insurance company. At the fire site, the building’s stone walls remained, the rest were gone, as if the house had never existed. The ground was black with soot. Boards have flown two meters out as if by an explosion. The ashes, the burnt boards and the shards of ice turned into violent still lifes. The book describes experiences and events after a fire, how a privacy-violating sudden event led to shock, fear, a crisis. The design of the book: from paper, binding and printing aimes to allude to the building after the fire.
