Travnik – Materia ; expo Fundacion Larivière 2023

Since the 1980s, Juan Travnik has been wandering, at dawn, the streets of a phantasmagoric Buenos Aires, empty of human presences, capturing the gloom of the austere urban landscapes of the city and its periphery. Over the years, color has assumed ever greater importance in his work. The pale dull nuances of his chromatic spectrum reflect his own dejection in the face of the crisis that Argentina is currently going through. With its dilapidated sidewalks and walls —stained and soiled, plastered and peeling—, with its rust and corrosion, its cracks and fissures, the city exudes a somber anguish, bathed in mournful light.
